Just Got Back

I just got back from a 3 day beach camp. Left on Boxing Day. That was so relaxing. I'll post more about it tomorrow when I'm in a more reflective writing mood. I'd write about it now but I'm too tiiiired. I miss that beach right now. It kinda sucks being home right now, being so used to the beach scenario and its calming power. I don't know if you know what I mean. I loved the whole stay though.
I'm sunburned though. I think I only got sunburned this afternoon. I hate getting sunburned. I look about 3 shades darker. Shit.

Anyway, later.

YO

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I haven't updated in a while. I'm rusty with this.
Anyway, this is the first time I've spent Christmas with my family in 4 years, except my dad's not here, he's working in Haiti. But yeah we had a good dinner at home last night. I slept late so I got up late, just 30 minutes ago. I'm eating my lunch right now (it's 6:26pm). Mashed potatoes and roast beef with gravy.

I hope everybody's swell.

Stay blessed.

La Haine

You should watch this French film from 1995. I just watched it. A friend recommended it to me and I thought it was awesome. I have yet to watch a terrible French movie.

Random Recommend

I just finished watching this and thought I'd recommend it to everyone. It's beyond great. I liked it instantly and not just because Zooey's in it. You should let me know what you think once you see it. This is definitely an immediate addition to my favorite movies.

And I guess since I recommended that, I should go ahead and recommend these too, since I've been indulging in movies that just came out on DVD. I won't say much about them. Just recommending.

Adventureland! I know it's directed by the guy who did Superbad, but it's nothing like Superbad. It's really laid-back and mellow actually. Good to watch on a lazy night. Great acting. You'd like it for what it is.

Yeah I'm a sucker for indie films. But good ones of course. Some of this takes place in Montreal, just so you Canadians know. This one goes from being fun to mellow. It's sweet though.
I just searched and found out the director directed American Beauty, Road to Perdition, and Jarhead. Crazy. I never would have guessed. This is so different from all those.

This whole movie takes place in Toronto. They don't say it, but I knew immediately from the first shot, somehow. It just reminded me of Toronto and then a few minutes into it, I saw the CN Tower and knew. This is a crazy compelling movie. Some parts felt awkward and loose, but the film was a great idea.

Goodbye Solo I mostly enjoyed because the main character's African and he has that cool African accent. You'll get what I'm talking about. It's such a good movie too. I wanna see more of the director's movies.

As for these two, they're really compelling documentaries. Waltz With Bashir is amazing. It's animated and in Hebrew. It's so great. Really visually stunning.
Trouble the Water is about Hurricane Katrina, from the perspective of these two victims who filmed what they went through during the flood. So, it really shows you how people suffered. It's really REAL and you'll wish you could have done something to help. Watch it now.

Fresh Beats

Just got 2 fresh beats out the oven! This one I just made like 10 hours ago. Somehow I can't get enough of it. It's just really chill and reminds me of fall, like orange leaves and driving around in the city or hanging out at a park. Had to post it up. I threw in snippets from an old Alfred Hitchcock interview I found. Thought that would be interesting. This is going into my album too.

Still Waters Run Deep - Skeematic Spaz

This one I made yesterday. I threw in some dialogue from the movie The Hangover. Maybe you'll enjoy it whether you've seen it or not. I'm not sure this will be part of my album. Prolly not, but I think it'd be a good treat as a demo or a free single to share with people.

Goin Beyond (Never Again) - Skeematic Spaz

Album

My album's pretty much shaping up! I've got 18 tracks listed so far, which consists of plain instrumentals and 4 skits. I showed half of the album to Michael and he loves it. Apparently he was listening to it in the bus on his way to school and he was nodding his head to the beats. I'm glad he likes it. He said it's underground. He's gonna be on at least 2 tracks. This is the album cover:

Anyway, now I'm in the process of starting to write lyrics. It'll take a while to completely finish writing every song. I'm guessing about 2 months or more. Def gonna take my time. I'm thinking of recording a demo track sometime soon just so I have something out. It's been so long. Michael recorded a track just the other day and it sounds so good, it made me want to come out with one too.
Here's the latest beat I made a few hours ago that I just added to my album: (press play)

Imaginations in Flight - Skeematic Spaz

The intro is a sample I took from one of my favorite movies, Waking Life. If you haven't seen it, do it!

Steph, I think you know where that picture's from!

September Update

-I went to the Tribal Gear tattoo expo last night with my brother. It was tight. We met P.O.D.'s drummer, Wuv. I'll post some pics up when I get to it.
-I'm starting to work out because I'm evidently getting fat. Mostly doin pushups to get some arm muscle goin to replace all that fatty fat. I did situps too but that killed my stomach and pelvis so I stopped. I'll get back into it sometime though. I should hit up the gym.
-My friend Michael from back in Mozambique who's actually in London now, convinced me to start working on some tracks for my own solo album. So I'm workin on that. I've done one beat for it which sounds pretty tight. One of my problems (though on another level is still a positive thing) is that I make so many beats and hand them out to my buddies (Hermano in South Africa and Michael in London) cuz they're the ones who are actively writing or doing shows and I'm not into rapping at the moment. I keep making beats though, so there's always material to work with and hand out if needed (Hermano always asks for beats which I gladly provide him with, and he's actually done a few shows recently doing Christian hip hop). Anyway, I'm pretty much just brainstorming ideas for my solo project so this is something I'm putting time and work into. I think there are lots of things I say I feel like doing but never end up dedicating myself to it, but this isn't one of those things. I think there's a point to this and I'm rolling with it and I hope it comes out great. I haven't written songs in a long time - I've just been making beats, and I think it's time to give myself a challenge in writing again. I'm aiming for 5 songs for now. Michael said to do at least 10, but we'll see how I feel after doing 5. I might post up my beats on here as this project progresses, so I guess you and my future self can see what's going on.

Peace and lots and lots of love!

Noob

Dear Future Kevin,

This rarely happens but last night at the supermarket, you saw this diamond in the ruff (or starfish in a sea of fish, or dolphin in a sea of whales, or a gummy bear in a bag of nuts.. well, you know what I mean) type of girl and you didn't make a move. Remember what she looked like? Yeah. Latin/Portuguese-looking half-Filipina. RARE here, buddy. That was an opportunity and you knew it right then you'd regret not hollering. So that was an opportunity gone, but in the future I'm pretty sure you'll know not to have to think twice. Moron.

Anyway, love you bro.

Past Kevin

P.S. You just had Canadian bacon for breakfast for the first time in months and it was wick-wick-wicked.

Schmap

Oh yeah, I was notified that one of my photos was short-listed for the upcoming 8th edition of the Schmap Toronto Guide! And of course I approved it, so hopefully they'll end up including it. It'd be sweet. Somehow I remember the framing being better though...

It's this photo right here:

Booobies

So here's a quick update. Just so you blogfiends and whoever else reads my crap (stalkers probably or friendly aliens) knows what's up.

I've been thinking about the possible things I can do with my time here (before I leave the country to go to wherever it is I'm going next.. back to Toronto hopefully, though that isn't in a while) and at the same time I've been feeling like the streets here need some decorating. I got inspired by a couple street artists I've been reading about in this book called The Adventures of Darius & Downey, and others like Swoon from some graffiti documentaries I recently rewatched. I really wanna start wheatpasting and culture jamming. Everytime I look out the car window, I see so many walls and places that I can make so much more interesting. And the adverstisements I can "take advantage" of.. there are so many that make people feel like they're not good enough because society says so if you know what I mean. And there are just so many unwanted giant billboards that scream at you, expecting you to buy their products just because there's a half-naked person on there.
I really just want to make things that people can look at and feel a connection to and just admire and just maybe even brighten up their day. So, I wanna do life-sized portraits and some stencils and just post them up around the city. Honestly, I think it'd be cool to share that type of art with all these people who've never seen it before. I don't want the art to above nor below the people I'm doing it for.. but instead just with them in a way. So yeah, I'm working on that. I already bought a bunch of art supplies and whatnot, so hopefully soooooon I'll be up in the streets doing my thing-thing.
My sister came back from New York last week and she just had her 16th birthday on Tuesday (the 7th).
I've been working on more beats as usual. Trying to get this next instrumental album done so I can have something to listen to and be happy about and maybe even share with the world. The working title is 'Stuck' and it's really dark and moody. Really underground.
I really want to start writing some scripts again. I don't think I wrote a script since the last scriptwriting assignment last year. But, I'm gonna get Windows on my Mac tomorrow so I should be using Final Draft again :)
I'm currently reading a handful of books it's ridiculous. I don't even give each one that much time. I still haven't finished Watchmen and I started Sophie's World again (read it a few years ago but never finished it because someone stole my copy) and I started Chuck Palahniuk's Choke again (like I said in my previous big post). Sign of A.D.D?
Nine Inch Nails is coming in August. I think I'm going. Should be awesome.
My dad's leaving on Friday to work in Africa for a few months. It's gonna be weird with him not being around. I got used to him being here all the time haha.

I removed my eyebrow piercing btw... I definitely have mixed feelings about that, but I think I don't mind it at all. This is the 3rd time I removed it and probably won't get it pierced again... for a while :P

Anyway here's a treat (I know I haven't posted any pics in a long time) and there's more where this came from ..but they probably won't see the light of day until I feel like posting them haha (sorry!):

Starting off a night in Boracay

Peace

Back

So, I've been neglecting my blog due to laziness. I wish I could make it more exciting around here. I should update more. I've been meaning to, but like I said - laziness. So ultimately, here's what should be a lazy post.
About the two photography classes I attended, they were pretty fun. I met some cool and friendly people. The Creative Lighting for Studio Portraits class was probably the most memorable, since we were all aged 20+, experienced, more outgoing and mingly. It was also fun being able to work with models, and it was cool because people seemed to think that I had a connection with models. Not one to brag, but they said I had 'control'. I know... I'm dead sexy. Plus I got to make friends with one of the models, so.. what you got to say about that? Thought so.
Mmm I've mostly been watching movies and series on my computer, listening to music and making music. My sister's attending this leadership thing she was invited to in New York (enter Theme from New York, New York). She's staying with her friends at her friend's uncle's house in New Jersey and apparently she's having fun, so way to go Carlton!
As you might have noticed, I stopped doing my 365s because I couldn't keep up with it. I might start all over again sometime though. I'm currently listening to the Theme from New York, New York. Fun, fun.
I keep falling into weird sleeping patterns. And speaking of sleeping (I just wrote 'sleeping of patterns' but I corrected it), I'm trying to become a lucid dreamer. Haven't had much luck though. Sometimes I forget, but I'm trying.
The other night last week, I slept over at my brother's apartment. That was pretty cool.
I started DJing on blip.fm. it's nothing special, but what I like most about it is that I get to discover so much good music through other people. It's connected to Twitter. The only people I follow on Twitter are my sister, Kevin Nealon, Jon Favreau and some musicians like Deftones and Limp Bizkit. Call me strange, but I like reading Tweets. I don't know why. Follow me if you want though I'm not really into Twitter. I might be though if I was still in Canada or knew some friends who use it.
I started making beats again. They mostly come off as dark, and contrasty to what I'd [usually] come up with for my 3rd album (beats compilation) but I kinda like that. I figure I could throw those into a [separate] 4th album.
I'm planning to start writing some short films. I need to get a notebook to write all my ideas down and whatnot. And then I need to force myself to get on Final Draft and start typing out some scripts.
I'm still reading Watchmen. And now I must go. I don't know what else to write about except what I just remembered, which is that I bought 2 books I've wanted to read - The Life of Hunter S. Thompson 'Gonzo', and Choke by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club). I actually started Choke back in Toronto, like in December 2007 or something, but my roommate Ed had to leave and it was his so I never got to finish it. I used to read it sitting in the can...

One Love.

Quick Uppitydate

I just attended the first day of my 3-day Basic Photography class. I actually learned new things and grasped quite a lot that I barely understood before on the technical side. So now I'm not so bad with the SLR.
Tomorrow, my class of 15 or 16 people are gonna start shooting stuff in the day at Green Belt (haven't been there before) and then late afternoon under low light conditions at this place called Roxas Boulevard where it's full of people and colorful street lamps and it's overlooking the sea. So hopefully I'll get some good sunset shots. And we also have to practice capturing motion from people or cars or whatever that moves. We'll see how it goes.

Peace

New Blog

I decided to make a new blog for my weird thoughts.

Here it is: http://trippyspazness.blogspot.com/

I know it's my 3rd blog but it's intended to be random and always updated. Well, I'll update as much as I can, depending on whether I think my thoughts should be shared or if I want something written down. I don't know, it'll be filled with personal things so I'm gonna be showing a different side of me and it'll be real. To tell you the truth, I've always got philosophical and psychological thoughts that I want to have written down and just recorded for personal references. I figure it's an effective way for me to share my thoughts with my future self since I always feel like I'm gonna wanna read my past thoughts and see where I am and who I am in my head. In other words, I'll be analyzing myself through my writings. This new blog is for Future Kevin.

Yes, seems like I'm starting an experiment for the Future Kevin - because I know he'd want me to!

Change Please

Ever feel like there's something missing in your life?
I do. I feel like I really need a change. I don't know what to do. So far, I've started listening to Radiohead a lot, started talking to someone new, and started reading a book. Nothing's really tingling.

Something EXCITING, please?

For Stephers

I wuz going through old photos and found a bunch from me and Stephers' photography sprees and I remember how she didn't like being in pictures and she rarely let herself get photographed. So this is for her, so she can see how awesome she looks in photos and well... Polaroids.

Polaroids = lovage. I wish I had a Polaroid camera, but I found this program online called Poladroid and it transforms whatever picture you want into a Polaroid. It's cool too because you can click and shake the image til it fully develops.

All those sticks she picked up? She collects them and has them in her room. I remember she even wanted me to help her take a squirrel home.

Miss you Steph!
